Low Carb Vegetarian Cheat Sheet – includes Vegan options
Vegetarian Low Carb Living
I have been on the low carb high fat (or banting) bus for over four years now. Countless people have scrunched up their faces in utter confusion while they try to figure out how one could not only not eat meat, but also not eat carbs. I find this quite entertaining and because I am so passionate about how the low carb lifestyle completely changed the way I look, feel and think about food, I launch into my monologue about how I came upon this lifestyle and why it works for me. Anyone who will listen will hear me explaining my experiences as detailed in the post linked above, and how amazing I feel as a result of this lifestyle. But convincing people of the benefits of a banting (low carb) lifestyle is one thing…explaining that it’s possible on a mainly plant-based diet is another! The point is that this worked for me, and so I share my experience in the hope of perhaps inspiring someone else. Read on for more about low carb vegetarian and vegan possibilities.
The Low Carb Lifestyle is Seriously Misunderstood!
Whenever there is any interest in a trend or new idea, there always seems to be a myriad of information popping up all over the internet from gazillions of different sources. It is our responsibility to wade through all the rubbish and hype in order to discover the facts.
Some of this hype and false information surrounding the low carb lifestyle is that it encourages incorporating larger amounts of proteins (read meat) into your diet… in fact, I have often heard people say things like “banting is easy – you just eat bacon and eggs for breakfast, lunch and dinner“! This is not the case and never has been and I have been insisting that people acquaint themselves with the facts of low carb living before making the decision to take the step of adopting this way of life.
Is it even possible to attempt a low carb vegetarian lifestyle? What about a low carb vegan lifestyle?
The idea was never to increase protein intake, but rather to decrease carbohydrates and increase (good and healthy) fats. The basic principle is to make sure that your body has enough fuel (fat) to sustain itself, and I have found that this is not only possible, but quite easily achieved with a low cab vegetarian – or vegan – diet.
It really is a mindset change. And once achieved, the Low Carb vegetarian lifestyle can lead to some serious creativity in the kitchen if you have a clear idea of exactly what ingredients are recommended. From there you can create a lot of unique and delicious dishes and surprise your friends and family with yummy, healthy, nutritious Low Carb vegetarian feasts!

But what about Low Carb Vegan Protein?
Low carb protein can be obtained through supplements like Phyto Pro Thrive Chocolate Protein Shake. This 100% GMO free, vegan protein supplement contains only 0.6 grams of carbs and 18 grams of protein per (30g) serving! Plus it contains NO gluten, dairy, nuts or soya!
So whether you are a meat-eater, pescatarian, vegetarian or even follow a vegan lifestyle, you can still try the low carb high fat lifestyle without making too many changes to your current protein intake. It is always advised to consult a healthcare professional before making any sudden changes to your diet or lifestyle.
