Discover Historical Noyon France
Noyon was a wonderful surprise! This unique city is rich in 2000 years of history and culture, and set in one of the most beautiful parts of Northern France. Known as Ville Sensations, Noyon is a historic and cultural gem just waiting to be discovered by the unsuspecting tourist.
Noyon Cathedral
The towering Cathedral is a beautiful mix of Roman and Gothic architectural styles and has an abundant historical content dating back to the 12th century and transforming over the centuries to become the magnificent edifice that we can see today. It’s free to visit the cathedral, so take your time exploring the inside and surrounds, and enjoy the peace and artistic wonder of this magical place. Here are some views of the massive Cathedral of Noyon, but they do not do this architectural wonder justice, so be sure to visit it in person.
Musée Jean Calvin
Jean Calvin, also known as John Calvin, French theologian and pastor, was born in Noyon in 1509. His home in central Noyon is now a museum.
Where to stay in Noyon?
Location, location, location…and pretty rooms of course! Hotel le Cèdre is perfectly situated in the centre of Noyon, with some rooms looking out on the Cathedral. Expect excellent hospitality and newly (and beautifully) redecorated rooms at very reasonable rates.
While Hotel le Cèdre was being built, Roman and Middle Age ruins and artifacts were unearthed beneath the hotel, which can be viewed by arrangement. The museum of Noyon (Musée du Noyonnais), situated between the Cathedral and the Hotel, house some of these fascinating archaeological discoveries, some of which date back as far as the 1st century AD.
Nearby Gin and Malt Experience at Distillerie Ergaster
A ten minute scenic drive out of Noyon will bring you to a wonderful and unique distillery where you can discover organic and creatively crafted pure malt and gin.
Enjoy pairing Ergaster Pure Malts with delicious chocolate.
My personal favourite was the unique gin infusion called GIN HERBORIST, and I will be bringing it home with me to share with my friends on our next beach holiday (#zimbaligirls). The GIN ASCENDANCE was also delicious, and both of these crafted gins can be enjoyed neat, or mixed with tonic water and a zest of grapefruit or a splash of gooseberry, depending on your gin preference (cocktail mix instructions are on the packaging). Ergaster’s artisinal Gins and Pure Malts are available for purchase online in France from their website.
If you are planning a visit to France, don’t miss the opportunity to visit Noyon and the Distillerie Ergaster for an amazing experience in Picardy, France.
